Robert Parker: "Les Asteries is from the JCP Maltus portfolio of skillfully crafted Saint-Émilion wines. Neil White is the head winemaker, and Thomas Duclos is a consultant here. The vineyard is composed of thin clay over limestone. The 2018 Les Asteries is a blend of 83% Merlot and 17% Cabernet Franc and has a 3.65 pH. Deep purple-black in color, it is a little shy to begin, opening out to give fragrant rose hip tea, violets, forest floor and cigar box notions over a core of wild blueberries, kirsch and warm plums plus a waft of cinnamon stick. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has lovely freshness contracting the generous red and black fruits, supported by velvety tannins, finishing long and with loads of mineral sparks coming through."
